Farne Islands Trip

Here are some shots from a wonderful trip to the Farne Islands, we survived the terns.

Toads and Newts

I have a small pond in my garden and have a surprisingly good number of toads this year. There are frogs as well but they aren't so obvious, appearing now and then mostly at night.  We found a lovely little toad sitting in a snail shell.  It was really bright coloured and, when in the water, had an almost neon glow.  Here are a couple of shots of it plus a couple of smooth  newts which were also around.

Sandmartins (and damselfly)

Had a trip to photograph Sandmartins yesterday.  The light wasn't good so the shots are a bit dull unfortunately and it rained on and off but it was great to be there watching them.  I was hanging over a ledge (not recommended) to see them properly and I spotted a little family nesting in an old pipe. 

After that we had a trip to a site where there are dragonflies and butterflies etc but it was a bit early and not much was showing.  There were some common blue damselflies which were showing quite well so I've attached a shot of one of those.
